Charles Schwab’s third-quarter 2026 earnings, scheduled for October 15, will offer investors their first full-quarter look at the brokerage since the introduction of Schwab Crypto, its direct cryptocurrency trading service for retail customers. The company began rolling out Schwab Crypto in May, initially supporting Bitcoin and Ethereum. The service gives customers access to digital assets alongside conventional investments through Schwab’s existing platforms, including Schwab.com, Schwab Mobile and thinkorswim.Wall Street expects the brokerage to report approximately $7.2 billion in quarterly revenue, representing roughly 17% growth from the $6.13 billion recorded a year earlier. Consensus adjusted earnings estimates range around $1.65 to $1.67 per share, compared with $1.31 in the third quarter of 2025.These figures remain forecasts rather than reported results. The earnings release will be particularly significant for Schwab’s digital asset strategy because July through September represents the first complete calendar quarter following the product’s introduction.
Schwab Enters Q3 After Record Revenue and Strong Client Growth
Schwab entered the third quarter following a record financial performance during the April-to-June period. Second-quarter revenue reached $7.1 billion, increasing 21% year-over-year, while net income totaled $2.8 billion. Adjusted earnings per share climbed 42% to $1.62.Total client assets reached $13.08 trillion at June 30, representing 22% annual growth. The company also attracted $119.8 billion in core net new assets and opened approximately 1.4 million brokerage accounts.Trading activity accelerated substantially. Daily average trading volume reached a record 11.9 million transactions, up 57% from the corresponding quarter in 2025. Trading revenue increased 28% to approximately $1.2 billion. Schwab’s August operating update provided further evidence of asset-gathering momentum, with core net new assets reaching a record $64.8 billion, a 46% year-over-year increase. However, these company-wide figures cannot establish how much activity originated from cryptocurrency trading. Schwab has not separately disclosed comprehensive cryptocurrency trading volumes, transaction revenue or customer adoption figures in the previously published financial results reviewed.Consequently, growth in overall brokerage activity should not automatically be attributed to Schwab Crypto.
Crypto Expansion Creates New Revenue Opportunity, but Adoption Remains Unclear
Schwab Crypto initially launched with transaction pricing of 75 basis points, equivalent to approximately $7.50 for every $1,000 traded. The offering represented a significant expansion beyond the cryptocurrency exchange-traded products and futures exposure already accessible through Schwab’s brokerage ecosystem. On August 27, the company announced plans to introduce Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink trading in the coming months, expanding the service beyond its original Bitcoin and Ethereum offering.Schwab also intends to introduce cryptocurrency deposit and withdrawal functionality over time, potentially enabling customers to consolidate digital assets previously held elsewhere. The broader commercial opportunity lies in connecting digital asset activity with Schwab’s established brokerage and wealth management relationships.Yet the financial significance remains difficult to quantify without dedicated reporting. Investors will therefore examine the third-quarter release for evidence of cryptocurrency account adoption, trading volume, revenue contribution and management commentary on the expansion timeline.Until those figures become available, Schwab’s overall revenue growth and client asset accumulation provide context for its cryptocurrency ambitions, not proof of their profitability.
